Courtesy of Kathryn (thanks!), it seems it’s my turn to do the seven things thang, cause I know you’re all totally keen to find out ten things you didn’t know about me. This is actually quite hard, because I still have a circle of friends from school and my pre-library working days, plus I’m a blabbermouth who’ll tell anyone just about anything, so some of this might not be all that new to a number of people. Anyhoo, here goes:
- I have a secret (or not so secret, if you’ve been in my car) penchant for what I like to call nst nst music: big, bassy, electronic tunes of the slightly poppy variety. And I like to play it really, really loud. It’s my rev up tool and I have a concert in the car every morning on the way to work.
- I have been known to go away to a conference with more pairs of shoes than days away (like five pairs for three days, because it is of course imperative that you change shoes before dinner). (See 7)
- Sleep is a very high priority for me, and it is not uncommon for me to pull a twelve hour sleep on a weekend. On school nights, I MUST have eight hours or I am totally non-functional at work the next day.
- I think reality tv is the bomb. So you think you can dance, Big Brother, Idol, America’s next top model, Biggest loser… I love them all. I have been known to go to several Big Brother evictions a season, and I was devastated when they cancelled it. I pretend I like this stuff because I’m all intellectual and I like to see the playing out of social roles and issues etc on screen in an artificial environment, but really, I just find it endlessly entertaining.
- Still on reality tv: Antiques roadshow. Need I say more? Yes, maybe I should: sometimes (not always, I’m not that strange) I tape Antiques roadshow to watch later, because it’s not on at a time friendly to people who work.
- I am, in general, a shopper, and if I had an addiction (besides my Coca Cola addiction, which I seem to have pretty much broken, and my tv addiction, which I think is totally legitimate), it would be shopping. My particular poisons? Shoes, perfume, books, shoes and oh! Did I mention shoes? Not even sensible shoes. Oh no. I like to buy shoes that will only go with one outfit, because they are bright orange, or yellow, or electric blue. But that’s okay, because I’m always well coordinated (I hope).
- I like to make my own jewellery. It’s my only ‘hobby’ that doesn’t involve technology. I have so many earrings I could open my own shop. In fact, I once bought so many beads in one spree that the shop assistant offered to label everything with prices to help me when it came time to sell what I made. Ha ha! Silly lady – it’s always all for me!
I’m tagging:
omg Kate – minus number 7 (because i have too short an attention span) we r the same person!
Katy
What can I say? ANTIQUES ROADSHOW IS THA BOMB!!! I like it when the little old ladies bring in something they bought at a garage sale/flea market for 25p and then the dude says this was Pontius Pilate’s teapot and saucer set, and it is worth 1,500,000,000,000 pounds you are now a zillionaire!!!
@DG yes! me too, but they have to be unassuming about it. i loathe it when they nod smugly like they already knew what it was worth. then you know they’re just bringing it on the show to show off.
@Katy tee hee. good to know we share more than a name!
I can’t even begin to calculate the astronomical odds that the entire audience of Antiques Roadshow (i.e. 3 people) have converged into the same exact spot on the interwebz all at the same time.
Something for you all to ponder:
I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! returned with nearly 9 million viewers last night, Sunday November 16 – but it was BBC1′s Antiques Roadshow which took the ratings glory with more than 10 million tuning in for its first £1m find.
ITV1′s reality show, now in its eighth series, launched with 8.9 million viewers and a 35% share between 9pm and 10.30pm, according to unofficial overnights.
This was up by 200,000 viewers on last year’s I’m a Celebrity premiere but three share points down.
However, pre-publicity about its most valuable find ever pulled in viewers in their droves to BBC1′s Antiques Roadshow, which attracted 10.1 million viewers and a 39% share between 7.15pm and 8.15pm.
The discovery of a model of Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North was hailed as the Antiques Roadshow’s first £1m discovery.
This £1m valuation means that the 6ft-high 17ft-wide bronze model is worth more than Gateshead council paid for the actual statue and is worth three times more than any other item discovered on the show.
Antiques Roadshow peaked at 11 million for the 15 minutes from 7.45pm, while I’m a Celebrity hit a high of 9.5 million for the quarter hour from 9.45pm.
@Rori hoorah! i’m not the only dag who loves to watch randoms discover their random things might just fund their retirement!
Kate darling I knew all of this about you, except I would say that I wasn’t *quite* aware of the extremity of your Antiques Roadshow obsession, but I am not surprised, and you *sometimes* make jewellery for others. I know coz I have some. xo!
